Component name
Floppy Disk Drive Slot
Category
indicators
2000s physical analog
Classic 3.5" Floppy Disk drives found on late 90s and 2000s PC desktop towers, external USB floppy drives, and digital cameras (e.g. Sony Mavica).
Mechanical working principle
A horizontal entrance slot houses a spring-loaded metal flap cover. Inserting a floppy disk pushes the metal flap down and inward. Once fully inserted, a mechanical latch clicks, locking the disk, and a physical eject button protrudes. A read/write electromagnetic head touches the disk, accompanied by a small green or amber busy LED activity light.
Why it belongs / use cases
Renders a file upload area, file dropper, or storage input zone. Instead of a generic dashed-border dropzone box, files are dropped or uploaded by clicking a retro floppy slot cavity, complete with active indicator LEDs.
