Chocolatey will not install to default location and instead installs to UniGetUI folder

What You Are Seeing?

I am trying to install Chocolatey while having Chocolatey previously installed (via UniGetUI?) I know this is not a UniGetUI support page; but I want to know why Chocolatey is doing this.

Chocolatey (when installed via UniGetUI?) defaults to the location;

C:\Users\Main\AppData\Local\UniGetUI\Chocolatey

I instead want to install into the default Chocolatey install directory, which is;

C:\ProgramData\Chocolatey Source

The problem is; no matter how I now choose to install Chocolatey; it ALWAYS installs to

C:\Users\Main\AppData\Local\UniGetUI\Chocolatey

Even using an install method totally unrelated to UniGetUI; the Powershell window will say it is installing there; and I have no control to change it. It is totally ignoring the default install location to install in the UniGetUI folder.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I do not want my Chocolatey installed apps to be in the UniGetUI subfolder.

I also know about changing the Chocolatey executable location via UniGetUI, which I will of course be doing once I have Chocolatey installed at its 'default' location.

What is Expected?

Chocolatey will install into its default installation directory.

How Did You Get This To Happen?

I had previously installed Chocolatey via UniGetUI; and now chocolatey only wants to install into that directory.

@curious-questions this is a known issue with how UniGetUI chose to install Chocolatey CLI. I brought this up with them months ago, and now, as a result, Chocolatey CLI is no longer installed as part of UniGetUI.

However, that doesn't help your current predicament. Can you open up a PowerShell window and run the following:

$env:ChocolateyInstall

This should either report nothing, or the actual Chocolatey CLI default which is C:\ProgramData\chocolatey, but I suspect that you are going to get C:\Users\Main\AppData\Local\UniGetUI\Chocolatey back.

You are going to need to clear this environment variable, and then attempt the installation of Chocolatey CLI again.
