Summary of the new feature

As was found in #1019 We're not getting the appropriate setting all the time.

Proposed technical implementation details (optional)

Mimic what is done in #2035 for all locations in the code where we're getting properties.

Unless there's anyone else that wants to tackle this, I will likely be able to tackle it near the end of July.
