The project is gradually evolving from a document automation tool into SciMAt (Scientific Manuscript Assistant), with a focus on improving scientific writing, formatting, and reporting workflows within Microsoft Word.
Have you ever copied text containing mathematical formulas (Lambda, Gamma, fractions, etc.) or chemical formulas (like H2O, NH3, CO2, etc.) after copy-pasting it from an external source, only to find it turns into messy Markdown code full of dollar signs inside Microsoft Word?
For example, instead of a clean, professional equation, you get something ugly like this:
The formula is $NH_3$ and the variance is $$\sigma_x^2$$
Normally, you would have to spend hours manually re-typing every single symbol using Word's tedious equation editor.
This tool fixes that instantly. It installs a permanent, custom 1-click button directly at the top of your Microsoft Word window. When you paste your text, you simply click your new button, and all that messy code instantly snaps into beautiful, professional, and fully editable Microsoft Word math equations or chemical formulas!

You don’t need to know anything about coding or system settings to get this running.
- Download this project folder to your computer.
- Make sure Microsoft Word is closed.
- Double-click the file named
Setup.bat.
That's it! A small command window will flash for a second to automatically place the components into Word's hidden startup directory. Once it finishes, the setup is permanently complete.
Once the installer finishes running, your custom butterfly-shaped shortcut will appear permanently pinned to the top header of your desktop app:
Using the tool is incredibly simple:
- Open Microsoft Word (any old file or a brand-new blank document).
- Copy your text and paste it normally into Word.
- Look at the very top left corner of your Word screen (above the standard "Home" ribbon toolbar) to locate your custom butterfly icon.
- Click the butterfly icon once.
- Watch all the raw symbols and dollar signs instantly transform into clean, native mathematical equations or chemical formulas!

This tool works perfectly on all standard Windows desktop versions of Microsoft Word (from Word 2010 all the way up to Word 2024 and Microsoft 365), but it will not run on Mac (Apple) computers, mobile apps, or the free web browser version of Word.

A Note from the Creator: I do not come from a traditional computer science background and do not write code from scratch. Instead, I identified a massive, repetitive bottleneck while trying to format study papers and data text.
I mapped out the logical steps required to fix the issue, designed the user experience (making it a permanent 1-click button for ease of use), tested the edge cases, and collaborated with an AI assistant to generate and refine the underlying code library. This project is a practical example of how non-programmers can use AI to build real, functioning tools to solve daily productivity problems.
