Reverse DNS lookup on incoming client requests

We recently got connection delays on CORBA connections because of a reverse DNS lookup on the ip address of the connecting client, the lookup fails and the connection is being made but with a significant delay.
Is there a way to disable this and also, why does this happen, we're not using SSLIOP.

Reverse DNS lookup on incoming requests should probably be opt-in or bounded by a short timeout, because it can turn accept/connect handling into a blocking network dependency. A regression test with a resolver that delays or fails would prove request processing still proceeds when reverse lookup is disabled or times out. It would also help to log the remote address and lookup duration separately so operators can identify DNS-induced latency.
