Why not create a discord or telegram or matrix group for vim9/vim? 👀 (not neovim)

By the way, I plan to create a Treesitter plugin for Vim9, but I plan to do it in Vala and Vim9. What do you think about plugins with binary dependencies, are they good or not?

(I use vala because it's async and very performant and it doesn't need external library instead of rust or go)

I think the main social point for Vim is the Reddit group, and even that is a little slow. I think most Vim users are more interested in work than we are in our tools. Not sure.

Some of the best Vim plugins have binary dependencies or service dependencies: fzf, Copilot, fugitive, instant markdown. I think a Treesitter plugin would be amazing.

That's exciting! Have you seen this thread about text highlighting? There have been several people working on it, but none of the treesitter projects ever seem to get completed.

Isn't Python too slow for that? I directly created a binary file because I was concerned about performance. What bothers me is that I would have preferred to give vala a pointer to the text buffer so that it could draw directly from it.

@nda-cunh. It is possible to write pretty performant code in Python for this type of application. A lot of the time is spent in in compiled (C) code - such as Tree Sitter or Vim. I have a 25,000 line Python file that I use to check that my code scales reasonably well, and Vim remains responsive when I edit that file.

Making the code scale so that Vim remains responsive has been an interesting challenge, but I would have faced the same challenges regardless of programming language. I am happy to discuss this in more detail and compare ideas, but perhaps such a discussion should be moved away from this issue.
