avformat_close_input() vs avformat_free_context()

to free the context format resource, avformat_close_input() is used. But the doc says explicitely to use avformat_free_context() for this task. so why is avformat_close_input() used ?

avformat_close_input.

The latter is a superset of the former. And since the AVFormatContext is opened by a call to avformat_open_input(), the latter should be used.
