Raspberry Pi 5 Tech Stack Support

Would like to get dearpygui support for the raspberry pi 5. Using it to build this project: https://github.com/Tbruno25/can-explorer.

Seems like there are no wheels to build with pip on the pi 5:

$ pipx install dearpygui
Fatal error from pip prevented installation. Full pip output in file:

Some possibly relevant errors from pip install:
    ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement dearpygui (from versions: none)
    ERROR: No matching distribution found for dearpygui

OK, so I'm not a rocket scientist on this but I'm trying to do the same thing. Here's what I've learned so far. The DPG wiki provides instructions on the construction of local wheels. See the right sidebar on the wiki page. There is an entry for the RPi4 from a couple of years ago.
First, the current bare metal installation of python on the RPi5 does not include the wheel module, so you need to pip install wheel into the virtual environment that you're using.
Second, and I think this may be a major issue, is that the instructions provided are for a 32 rather than 64-bit environment. I am able to successfully generate a wheel using this instruction: python3 -m setup bdist_wheel --plat-name linux_aarch64 --dist-dir ../dist the plat-name is changed to linux_aarch64 rather than linux_arm71
The wheel installs but then doesn't work. If this helps point you in the right direction, glad it could help. I'm going to keep flogging this for a while, and if I have updates I will post them.

I have been able to get dearpygui to work on a Raspberry Pi 5, at least in my environment. Can't say what will happen in yours, but here's my experience.

I am going to refer repeatedly to the Wiki entry regarding building local wheels. There's an entry for Pi4s; that's the starting point. [https://github.com/hoffstadt/DearPyGui/wiki/Local-Wheel] The Wiki entry refers to "Legacy Mode." I believe that refers to using the X11 environment. That can be set in raspi-config under "Advanced." I will say that when I tried this under the newer graphical environment, python threw some errors but the GUI functioned. There were no errors under X11.

Specifics:

1. The GUI seems to want to be installed in a virtual environment, so I made one.
2. The Wiki specifies a series of prerequisite files and packages. In addition to ensuring that these files are present (verify presence or install), you must pip install wheel into the environment before proceeding. Otherwise, the wheel build will fail.
3. Follow the Wiki directions for git cloning.
4. The build instructions are for a 32 bit environment. Use the following instead:
   python3 -m setup bdist_wheel --plat-name linux_aarch64 --dist-dir ../dist
5. The wheel will be found in the /dist folder as indicated in the wiki.
6. pip install the wheel into the virtual environment.
   So far, so good, but this is where things got a little screwy. There's a file pair-- dearpygui.py and _dearpygui.so and a path to this pair MUST be specified. There are three copies of this pair resulting from the build. I used this path:
   ~/DearPyGui/build/lib.linux-aarch64-cpython311/dearpygui/
   This path should be appended, either permanently or before trying to import dearpygui into your main program.

This is great! Thanks @edringel. Sounds like it just needs to be implemented in the setup.py file. Do you have that .whl file? Maybe that can be added to PyPi for the Pi5. I'll see if I have time to mess around with this later.

I tried to attach the wheel to this comment, but github wouldn't let me, and frankly my understanding of how to use this website is rudimentary. It would make sense for you to compile your own, primarily to confirm that I wasn't just lucky. Programming is not my primary area of expertise...this is a hobby to keep my brain working in retirement.

The document on this wiki mentioned by @edringel about RPI 4 worked on the RPI 5 with 64bit Raspberrian OS.

I have just used linux_aarch64 architecture for building dearpygui. I needed to set this environment variable before running my UI.
export DISPLAY=:0

Can you please recheck this with DPG 2.3? It now contains aarch64 wheels, which should be what RPi 5 needs, I guess (I don't have any RPi experience). See PRs #2625 and #2603 for more info.
