Plots not rendering in IJulia / Julia 1.12.2

Equivalent symptoms to #517 although unrelated to installation of 'NumericalDistributions.jl'. 'plots()' not displaying, notebook hangs (hourglass in tab) and nothing else printed after calling 'plots()', .e.g. calling versioninfo() produces no output.

I tried to do a clean install of Julia and have not successfully gotten PlotlyJS to work inside a jupyter notebook. These are my install notes:

1. installed Julia and WebIO.
   WebIO install ran smoothly apart from the following:

1 dependency had output during precompilation:
WebSockets
-WARNING: Imported binding Logging.termlength was undeclared at import time during import to WebSockets.
-WARNING: Imported binding Logging.Showvalue was undeclared at import time during import to WebSockets

Ignored the warning

2. Installed PlotlyJS, Conda, then IJulia, in that order. I have always previously started a notebook by calling

using IJulia
notebook()

Since I dont have python, the first time I did this I opted for the miniconda installation as recommended in the docs, then called Pkg.build("IJulia")

3. Following the IJulia install notes, I then ran

import Conda
Conda.SCRIPTDIR

to get the install location of jupyter, and confirmed they were in my PATH (they were, so didn't do a computer restart). Restarted Julia and called `Pkg.build("IJulia")'

4. Ran

using IJulia
notebook()

then, within the notebook called using PlotlyJS. Got Warning that The WebIO Jupyter extension was not detected. Also tried

fig=plot()
display(fig.plot)

as suggested here, but the notebook hangs on the call to fig = plot().

5. Revisited the WebIO notes on Jupyter installation and ran:

using Conda
Conda.pip_interop(true)
Conda.pip("install","webio_jupyter_extension")

which warned WARNING conda.cli.condarc:set_key(484): Key pip_interop_enabled is an alias of prefix_data_interoperability; setting value with latter
then errored
ERROR: pip_interop is not enabled Use Conda.pip_interop(true; [env::Environment=ROOTENV]) to enable which seems to be an outstanding issue discussed here.

6. I then went to the trouble-shooting page of WebIO. There are instructions for checking if webio_jupyter_extension is installed but not working for the classic notebook and for jupyterlab, but not for a regular(?) IJulia notebook. According to the IJulia page, notebook, nbclassic and jupyterlab are three distinct things and not clear why WebIO only addressed later 2 of the 3. I tried to manually install the Jupyter notebook extension by running (in the julia REPL)

using WebIO
WebIO.install_jupyter_nbextension()

which errored, ERROR: The WebIO Jupyter extension must be installed using Python or Conda.

I am now at a loss as to what to do:

• Do I need to downgrade Julia to get rid of the WebSockets warning when I installed WebIO?
• Do I need to switch the order in which the packages are installed?
• Isn't the whole point of doing the miniconda installation during the initial call to notebook() so that I don't have to directly download Python?
• Do I need to wait for pip_interop needs to be replaced with prefix_data_interoperability JuliaPy/Conda.jl#265 to be resolved?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
